The Japanese manufacturer Canon has been offering its customers a selection of compact and bridge superzoom cameras with the SX models for several years now. What has remained the same and what innovations can you expect? Nothing new but an old acquaintance is the 1/2.3 inch backside exposed (BSI) CMOS image sensor with 12 megapixel resolution. And the Digic 5 image processor has already been used in combination with the sensor. For all videographers, the Full HD video function with 24 frames per second remains, of course. What’s new now? The new model finally offers the possibility to save images in RAW format (at Canon “.CR2”) as well, thus offering more freedom when post-processing the shots. Low-light photographers will certainly be happy about the extended ISO sensitivity range. While this was still 100 to 3,200 ISO for the Canon PowerShot SX40 HS, it now ranges from 80 to 6,400 ISO for the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. 
In this camera class, features such as intelligent scene detection (Smart Auto), various creative filters, a high-speed continuous shooting mode or even full manual control should not be missing. The new bridge camera model can offer all this to its owner.
