Survey : Why the people of Krefeld take the bus and the train Among other things, we asked around at Rheinstraße why the people of Krefeld use public transport. Photo: Andreas Bischof High gasoline prices, expensive parking fees and the thought of the environment make most people in Krefeld use public transportation. sesBu ndu anehBn ndis lenilmeag mti dne Veuretrioln ndnrebeuv, sasd they cdho merim to ptäs sdni nud swoeiso uz ggüienstnnu eZneti udn to tlense nfh. rae oDhc tmitsm sda h?iclkirw Dei ZW has mti nldrePne from ereKdfl nrecpeh, gso the geregmßliä ide fenföltiehcn rhesmViteklert in erd mSta- ndu edtinSdatse uet. znn aMrnoi Qadeunr rhätf tiebesr ties eharnJ tmi ehimr nä “reB “cikteT tmi med usB dun rde ßaahSntebrn drhcu er. Summer tour with the E-Bulli This is how the week was with #RheinStories in Krefeld

Krefeld · The two RP journalists Maren Könemann and Marie Ludwig stopped off in Krefeld for a week as part of their eight-week #RheinStories summer tour and tell of their experiences in the velvet and silk city. They are touring the region on the Rhine in an electric bus. Marie Ludwig (l.) and Maren Könemann are on tour with the “Rheiner” e-bus. The two journalists spend the night in the roof tent. Photo: Lammertz, Thomas (lamm) “Rheiner” is picky about filling up with electricity. That makes the summer #RheinStories tour with him a bit of an adventure. The electric bus is the faithful companion of the two RP journalists Marie Ludwig and Maren Könemann. They are touring the region in the van for eight weeks and reporting on their experiences and encounters in an innovative journalistic format on the Instagram channel of the Rheinische Post. “In Krefeld, Rheiner didn’t want four charging points,” the two report with a laugh. “We were already a bit desperate, but it worked out at the fifth one. The Rheiner apparently likes green electricity best.” These funny experiences are also part of the #RheinStories tour of the two journalists. But the real goal is to tell local stories in a different way. Not via the printed or digital newspaper but as an Instagram story. The medium has developed rapidly in recent years: Initially, it was mainly influencers and hobby Instagrammers who used the many possibilities of the story function, but for some time now journalistic channels have also had hundreds of thousands of followers. The stories that the two RP journalists experience every day are filmed. The material is prepared and edited for the social media channels after the appointments. And that doesn’t happen at a desk, but under the awning of the #RheinStories bus in wind and weather. By the way, we will spend the night in a roof tent on the faithful Rheiner. Ludwig and Könemann have now stopped off in Krefeld for a week, camping out with Rheiner at Steveshof in Hüls. The two journalists got their first impression of the city during a balloon flight. Early in the morning, they set off with European gas balloon champion Volker Kuinke from Egelsberg airfield for a ride into the sunrise and over Krefeld. “We were simply enchanted and taken by the beauty of this region,” the two recount. Another stop in Krefeld that was on the “must-see” list was the Piazza Sorrento restaurant: “After all, what city has a European champion pizza maker?” Naturally, the journalists sampled the winning “Amici” pizza created by Massimiliano Grande. The electric van takes them on a tour of the region. Photo: Lammertz, Thomas (lamm) The third day of the Krefeld visit was all about the well-known Instagrammer Jana Huhn. The 28-year-old from Hüls writes on her profile for more than 100,000 women (we reported). “Jana writes on her account about personality development and the path to a positive outlook on life and lets her readers participate in her emotional journey of life,” Maren Könemann tells us. “For the #RheinStories, we were allowed to visit her in her Krefeld apartment.” Of course, a tour of the host Steveshof in Hüls was not to be missed. “We went out with them to the chickens and looked for eggs, which was a lot of fun.” But the Instagram story is also about Finn and Stephie Bönninger’s organic Galloway cattle.

Along the Silk Road -from the Silk City to Asia.

Photo: NN Susanne and Thomas Goertz have ridden halfway around the world on two aged motorcycles. Krefeld. It’s one thing to dream about life. No matter how much you wish for it – making it come true is always a leap in the deep end. Susanne and Thomas Goertz dared to do it, they chose the hard way – and they haven’t regretted it. Once along the Silk Road, from the Silk City to East Asia. Photo: NN 30,000 kilometers on two old motorcycles. Nerves and sweat, fear and cold. Insights into foreign ways of life, into survival in inhospitable places. “If someone had told us beforehand what to expect, we probably wouldn’t have gone,” says Thomas Goertz. “Looking back, I’m glad no one did.” Photo: abi Anyone who visits them immediately notices that wanderlust is their constant companion. On the street is an all-terrain army truck that they are currently converting into a motor home, in the driveway the two touring enduros with which they conquered the legendary Silk Road “The cultures, the ancient cities, the Orient, it all appealed to us,” says Susanne Goertz. They set off at the end of March 2013, crossing the snow-covered Black Forest to Venice, the birthplace of Marco Polo. From there, they travel via Greece to Turkey. After six weeks, they arrive in Iran – with due respect for the Iranian image of women in their luggage. “I’m just not a man who can experience hospitality undivided,” she says. But the woman traveling by motorcycle is an attraction in the strictly Muslim country. Overrun by the warmth of the population, the official image quickly collapses. As soon as they stop, they are invited, passed on, addresses are exchanged. Even the police invite them – initially on a purely friendly basis. Then they cross the salt desert and unintentionally end up in the restricted area. They are arrested, now the police are no longer friendly. Desperation is the order of the day. The police chief is a psychopath, yells at them, hits the walls, locks them in a dungeon. After hours of interrogation, they are blindfolded, with their heads between their knees, they are taken in a frantic drive to a secret service prison. The charge: espionage. Interrogations again. “Where did you get all those Iranian addresses?” Thomas Goertz’s collar bursts: “Have you ever driven through your own country?” he asks back with the courage of despair. The reference to the exuberant hospitality is the longed-for door opener. You can leave the country under observation. With the Turkmen stamp in the passport, all is well again. Licking wounds in Ashgabat is now the order of the day. They like Uzbekistan even better. “The country is like an open museum, a lot of things look like they did 500 years ago,” says Thomas Goertz. In Tajikistan, “the big landscape cinema starts,” as he calls it. They spend the night in yurts with locals or in a tent in the garden of a luxury hotel. A terror warning ends the stay. Chinese military controls are a nuisance on the roof of the world in Tibet. On the other hand, the machines are still running at an altitude of over 5,000 meters, even if only at 20 percent power. Dealing with archaic problems – where to sleep, what to eat, what’s the weather like – has made them more relaxed. Experiences like the one in the Iranian prison make the impositions of everyday life appear in a completely different light. What else is there to come – except the next great adventure?
